On July 6, 2019, at the 43rd session of the World Heritage Committee in Baku, capital of Azerbaijan, the Archaeological Ruins of Liangzhu City were inscribed on the World Heritage List after 13 minutes of deliberation. “Liangzhu is a sacred place to showcase the 5,000-year-old Chinese civilization", which has been widely recognized around the world.
In order to commemorate this historic moment and share the story behind the application process with the genral public, the exhibition “Witness - Liangzhu's Path of Becoming a World Heritage Site”was opened at Liangzhu Museum on January 18, 2020.
This is a themed exhibition featuring a news perspective, documentary stories, and a way of expression with a sense of presence. Through 80 objects, 99 pictures and a number of interactive new media, the exhibition for the first time shows the whole process behind the application of the Archaeological Ruins of Liangzhu City as a World Heritage Site, reveals the untold touching stories, and replays the 13 minutes it took on July 6, 2019 for the Archaeological Ruins of Liangzhu City to be inscribed on the World Heritage List. It is also the first theme exhibition in China to reveal the whole process of China's application for a World Heritage Site.
