Overview

On July 6, 2019, the Archaeological Ruins of Liangzhu City was officially inscribed on the World Heritage List at the 43rd World Heritage Convention. It is China’s 55th World Heritage Site. With its inscription onto the World Heritage List, the number of China’s world heritage sites now ranks No.1 in the world.

The Archaeological Ruins of Liangzhu City is located in Yuhang District, Hangzhou City, about 30km northwest of Hangzhou City, and about 60km away from Xiaoshan International Airport. It has a total planning area of 14.33km2, which is divided into four areas: City Site, Yaoshan Site, Low-dam on the Plain—Causeway in front of the Mountains and High-dam at the Mouth of the Valley.

  • Liangzhu Museum
    Located in Meilizhou Park, Liangzhu Neighbourhood, Yuhang District, Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province, Liangzhu Museum is an archaeological site museum that collects, studies, displays and promotes Liangzhu Culture. The permanent exhibition features 608 pieces (sets) of cultural relics, which presents the archaeological achievements and heritage value of Liangzhu Archaeological Site and Liangzhu Culture in a comprehensive, three-dimensional and authentic way. Typical objects on display are jade Cong, jade Bi, jade Yue, jade-inlaid lacquer cups, carved pottery jars, etc.
  • The Archaeological Ruins Of Liangzhu City Park
    Liangzhu is a sacred place to showcase the 5,000-year-old Chinese civilization, and the Archaeological Ruins of Liangzhu City Park is an important place to experience and comprehend it. The park was officially opened to the public on July 7, 2019 with an area covers 3.66 km2. There are mainly ten areas to visit: City Gates & Walls, Archaeological Experience Area, Site of River Courses and Workshops, Zhishan Viewing Platform, Mojiaoshan Palace, Fanshan Cemetery, Ruins of the West City Wall, Fengshan Research and Study Base, Daguanshan Recreation Area, and the Deer Garden.
  • Yaoshan Site
    As an important part of the Archaeological Runs of Liangzhu City, the Yaoshan Site is a ruin that is with older history, consisting of an altar and a group of high-grade cemeteries which are superimposed. Located 5km to the northeast of the City Site, the Yaoshan Site is built on a natural hill about 35m above sea level, and stands about 35m above the surrounding farmland. The plane at the mountain top has an irregular shape. 
  • Dam Site
    The water conservancy system of the Liangzhu Ancient City is composed of High-dam at the Mouth of the Valley, Low-dam on the Plain and Causeway in front of the Mountains. The water conservancy system of Liangzhu is an important part of the planning of the Liangzhu Ancient City. It fully embodies the scientific nature of China’s early water conservancy projects and is a masterpiece in the history of urban construction in China and even in the world.
